Child Adolescent Behavioral Health Clinician

Department: Behavioral Health

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:     Provide individual, group, family counseling to assigned clients.  Provide intake into Behavioral Health program as needed and complete assessments as indicated.  Carry active caseload of regular clients and meet agency productivity standards.  Make appropriate referrals and maintains contact with other therapists, physicians and agencies involved in client’s case.

REPORTS TO Director, Behavioral Health.  Clinicians are supervised on an on going, as needed fashion, as well as through group supervision and peer review.  Clinicians are encouraged to seek guidance from their supervisor, other members of the Behavioral Health Staff, and/or the Clinical Coordinator or Medical Director as needed.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting for long periods of time.  Occasional bending, stretching or lifting.  May require contact with individuals with communicable diseases.  Requires the ability to work under high stress conditions for long periods of time.  Ability to hear a normal range of voice.  Ability to prepare written reports and use of telephone equipment

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:Normal office environment.  Occasional exposure to communicable diseases and other condition in a health center environment.  Occasional exposure to aggressive or violent clients.

DUTIES:

  1. Provide short and long term counseling services on individual, group, and family basis.
  2. Complete comprehensive intake and psychosocial assessments.
  3. Use of appropriate counseling techniques to develop a therapeutic environment for the client.
  4. Formulate treatment recommendations based on assessment of strengths and needs and identified problems.
  5. Assess clients’ progress to develop and modify treatment plan accordingly.
  6. Communicate with family members, and/or support persons to further the effectiveness of treatment planning for the client, if desired by the client.
  7. Coordinate care with other providers, agencies and services.
  8. Maintain complete, up-to-date documents, and pertinent data within the client medical record.
  9. Complete tracking, billing, and other data requirements in a timely manner.
  10. Facilitate psycho educational and therapy group session independently and with other counselor(s) when assigned.
  11. Participate in on-going professional development and training and continues to work toward certification or re-certification.
  12. Attend the professional staff meeting at CHS, and all Behavioral Health Staff meetings, individual supervision and clinical team meetings.
  13. Obtain and maintain appropriate insurance authorizations for all services provided.
  14. Attend required meetings and participates in committees as requested, including external and community forums as assigned.
  15. Maintain patient confidentiality.
  16. Participate in community and/or agency wide events as assigned.
  17. Perform other duties as assigned.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of principles, practices and professional counseling of population served,  Knowledge of current social and health problems related to behavioral health issues.  Knowledge of community resources and referral agencies.  Knowledge of group dynamics.  Knowledge of Family Therapy. Knowledge in Play Therapy as appropriate. Skill in counseling.  Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective therapeutic working relationships with clients, staff and the public.  Ability to evaluate, diagnose and treat clients.  Ability to complete documentation, write reports and document clients’ progress.

Education/Experience:

  1. Master’s degree in the counseling and or mental health field.
  2. Professional Credentialing and/or Licensure eligible
  3. 2 years experience in behavioral healthcare setting.
