Director of Adult Medicine
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
Plans, organizes and directs all aspects of medical care services in the Adult Medicine Department. Supervises nursing
staff and other clinical support staff. Provide primary care to patients acting as an assistant to physicians in
the department, by following established standards and practices. Submit department activity and grant reports to CEO on timely basis consistent with contract guidelines and CEO requests.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a health center environment.
DUTIES:
- Assists in establishing and implementing the health centers’ health care plan specific to the Adult Medicine Department.
- Assists the Cheif Medical Officer in establishing goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and care delivery systems for department’s clinical services.
- Participates in the development and implementation of long-range plans and budgets for clinical services.
- Assumes responsibility for nursing, administrative and other medical functions of day-to-day clinic operations.
- Participates with the Department of Human Resources in the recruitment of nursing staff.
- Reviews and monitors staff work schedules, hours, and duty assignments. Effects changes as needed. Responsible for work assignment and daily operations in the assigned department.
- Manages nursing care essential to the assessment, promotion, maintenance, and restoration of patient’s health and wellness.
- Evaluates performance and recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions of assigned staff.
- Ensures compliance with clinical accreditation, quality assurance, legal and regulatory requirements.; Including completing reports consistent with reporting schedules of funding contracts.
- Identifies and resolves problems in clinical areas to ensure compliance with regulations and standards.
- Under the direction of the Cheif Medical Office, participates in CQI activities of the clinical services.
- Participates actively in safety, infection control, medical records, and quality assurance efforts.
- Works with medical staff to ensure quality patient care and services are provided.
- Gathers and reports monthly and annual clinical data for fiscal, statistical and planning purposes.
- Participates in professional development activities to keep current with health care trends and practices.
Other:
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as required.
- Maintains professional affiliations. Attends conferences and workshops as approved by Cheif Medical Officer and CEO.

- Perform other duties as assigned.
