Family Nurse Practitioner

Department: Adolescent Medicine

GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES:  Provide primary health care and performs selective medical services under the direction of Health Center physicians.

DUTIES:

  1. Obtains complete medical history and physical data.  Reviews patient records.
  2. Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
  3. Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  4. Administers medication and injections.   Sutures minor lacerations.
  5. Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.
  6. Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention.  Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
  7. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
  8. Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information.  Posts test and examination results. Triages patient’s telephone calls and provides consultation.
  9. Performed independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
  10. Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
  11. Fulfills HRSA and health center productivity standards.
  12. Observe all infection control procedures.
  13. Follow established health center procedures for patient billing and reimbursement.
  14. Reports any discrepancies, irregularities, and/or violations involving clinical care, administrative procedure, billing issues, or other Health Center protocols to their immediate supervisor and/or the Health Center’s Clinical Director.
  15. Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
  16. Maintain strictest confidentiality.
  17. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
  18. Maintain professional competence by completing appropriate specialty requirements of CME. Maintains current certifications and licenses.

Education: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program.

Experience: 

1-3 years experience in health center setting.

Certificate/License:

Possession of a State Registered Nurse License.  ANA certification. Eligible to obtain DEA and state narcotic registrations
