Family Nurse Practitioner
JOB TITLE: APRN
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES: Provide Obstetric and Gynecologic care to women under the supervision of OBGYN MDs
DUTIES:
- Obtains complete medical history and physical data. Reviews patient records.
- Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures needed.
- Collaborates with physicians in managing acute and long-term medical needs of patients. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
- Administers medication and injections. Sutures minor lacerations.
- Prepares written prescription orders for drugs and controlled substances.
- Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommends community resources to meet patient and family needs.
- Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions.
- Maintains and reviews patient records, charts, and other pertinent information. Posts test and examination
results. Triages patient’s telephone calls and provides consultation. - Performed independent evaluations and treatment procedures in emergency situations.
- Provides monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits.
- Fulfills HRSA and health center productivity standards.
- Observe all infection control procedures.
- Follow established health center procedures for patient billing and reimbursement.
- Reports any discrepancies, irregularities, and/or violations involving clinical care, administrative procedure, billing issues, or other Health Center protocols to their immediate supervisor and/or the Health Center’s Clinical Director.
- Attends required meetings and participates in committees as requested.
- Maintain strictest confidentiality.
- Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional affiliations.
- Maintain professional competence by completing appropriate specialty requirements of CME. Maintains current certifications and licenses.
- Rounding at the hospital as agreed upon by the providers.
Education: Graduate of accredited school of nursing. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program.
Experience: variable
Certificate/License: Possession of a State Registered Nurse License and certification. Eligible to obtain DEA and state narcoticregistration
Knowledge, Skills &Abilities: Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practice and medical care to give and evaluate patient care. Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care. Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment. Knowledge of reporting protocols are essential to the proper functioning and operation of the Health Center and the responsibility of each provider to comply with them. Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care. Skill in taking medical history, assessing medical conditions and interpreting findings. Skill in preparing and maintaining records, writing reports, and responding to correspondence. Skill in developing and maintaining department quality assurance. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public. Ability to maintain quality control standards. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations. Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability tocommunicate clearly.
