Dental Financial Coordinator

Non-exempt, Full Time Position

Date Posted: November 2019

Department: Dental

Since 1970, CHS has existed to provide comprehensive health care services to the residents of Hartford and Windsor. We were made for the community, by the community, to offer a full spectrum of services to include medical, behavioral health care, dental care, a full-service pharmacy and more. Our goal is to offer our patients a medical home; a place where they can come for all of their needs; a place where the clinical staff know them by their first name. Our dedicated staff demonstrate the good we can do on a daily basis when we provide quality care with dignity to each and every individual. We want to help our patients get all of the health care they need -- when they need it -- so they may too live a healthier and happier life.

We are seeking a Financial Coordinator to join our Dental department at Community Health Services (CHS). Reporting to the Practice Manager, the Financial Coordinator helps patients connect to dental services and support reimbursement for those services by coordinating non-claim financial activities associated with dental visits. The Financial Coordinator also serves as the department point of contact for questions regarding dental coverage. We want to help our patients get all of the health care they need -- when they need it -- so they may too live a healthier and happier life.

The successful candidate will have:
  • Have an associate’s degree in social services, health care, or a related field OR a high school diploma or GED

  • Have three (3) years of experience working in a healthcare setting in a customer service role or related experience and one (1) year of experience in medical or dental billing and coding, including CPT and ICD coding

  • Act as a resource for patients regarding dental coverage questions, explanations of benefits, and account balances; resolve account disputes in a professional manner

  • Screen individuals and families and identify primary and secondary barriers to accessing health care, including dental coverage, and provide linkage to appropriate services for which they are eligible

  • Act as the departmental point of contact for patients, and clinical and administrative staff regarding questions related to dental insurance coverage, insurance breakdowns, payment arrangements, and treatment plan estimates

  • Collaborate with dental providers to ensure pre-authorizations and post-authorizations are submitted and completed as required by applicable third-party payors

  • Develop payment plans for dental treatment, including developing financial estimates for treatment plans and advising patients regarding available payment options, and documenting payment arrangements

  • Collect and post payments for services

  • Coordinate scheduling of dental procedures, including major dental services such as dentures, crowns, and root canals

  • Coordinate patient waivers for non-covered Medicaid services

  • Maximize collection and reimbursement for services rendered by collaborating with billing staff to resolve outstanding claims and denials by third-party payors and pursuing reimbursement for claims identified for write-off

  • Create and submit accurate documentation of pre- and post-authorization activity, including status reports, in the electronic dental record; maintain documentation of financial arrangements and other financial information related to dental visits

  • Maintain deep and current knowledge of public and private assistance programs applicable to clients in the organization’s service area, including all parts of Husky and Medicare
