We are seeking a Nurse Manager (RN), with post-graduate clinical experience, preferably in a primary care setting to join our Department of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine at Community Health Services (CHS). The Nurse Manager trains, supervises, and assigns staff nurses and medical assistants to appropriate tasks. The Nurse Manager collaborates with the clinical director, the practice manager, and other appropriate staff to provide the best care for our patients. The Clinical Director of the department is Dr. Zeev Harel, former Brown University Medical School Professor of Pediatrics. Levels of employees’ engagement and satisfaction in this department are well above national average.

The successful candidate will:
  • Have a deep knowledge of nursing practice coupled with a record of providing high quality, comprehensive, professional nursing care to patients.

  • Have a minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, at least 2 years of supervisory experience.

  • Supervise activities of nurses, medical assistants, and care coordinators.

  • Collaborate and coordinate care with our pediatricians and pediatric nurse practioners by assisting with exams, treatments, and procedures.

  • Administer medications, vaccinations, and treatments (such as inhalation treatment) to our patients.

  • Supervise vaccination program for our children and adolescent patients, as well as serve as the principle coordinator with Connecticut Department of Public Health vaccine program.

  • Supervise lead screening program for our children patients.

  • Supervise CLIA waived testing performed by the Pediatrics and Adolescent department.

  • Possess organizational skills to manage competing priorities within the department, including, scheduling, triaging patients who present in person and by phone, and correcting obstacles that might impede optimal productivity.

  • Coordinate both clinical and quality improvement projects and communicate changes in progress to the clinical team.

  • Be responsible for accurate and prompt documentation in our electronic medical record of all activities in accordance with policies and procedures.

  • Oversee ordering of clinical supplies for the Pediatrics and Adolescent department.

  • Participate in patient education efforts regarding preventive and episodic health care issues.

  • Be responsible for interviewing, hiring, and appraising performance of nurses, medical assistants, and care coordinators.

  • Be willing and able to engage in leadership level discussions around organizational and departmental clinical and operational policies and procedures. 

  • Assist the department director in collaborating with outside agencies such as Connecticut Children’s, the Connecticut Children’s Asthma Easy Breathing program, Connecticut Putting on Air Asthma Program, and CT Department of Public Health.

  • Serve on department and CHS committees, such as quality and infectious disease committees.

  • Possess computer skills including program knowledge in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.

  • Be willing to perform other duties as assigned.
